It is a tough job to cut the amount of videos we received by half, but after meeting with our MDS2013 team, we did it! If you are curious as to how we do this, it goes a little something like this: each team member watches every videos and picks their top 10, I compile the list in a spreadsheet, any designers that overlap with all team members are automatically deemed semi finalists, and any designers that have more than 1 team member is debated. Between our team, we had chosen 16 of the 20 designers, so we obviously had some debating to do. This also means that some great designers and personalities did not make it on the list.
I wanted to thank all of the talented designers who were brave and submitted a video. We know this is not easy to do and greatly appreciate your efforts!!
And without further ado, I present to you our MDS2013 Top 10 Semi Finalists (in no particular order) :
Lori Tolbert – We thought the butterfly designs were creative and we liked her use of accessories items. We also enjoyed the set and having a birthday party that included flower arranging. Great idea for a shop with the space.
Gregg Lauck – While Gregg submitted the same video as last year, we still love his design and he speaks very clearly.
Heather Dupuis – We thought she spoke very well and used a rich color palate.
Jerome Raska – Jerome can speak very well, and we liked that he chose to create a sympathy arrangement.
Jodi Duncan AIFD – She is fun, creative, and refined. Her bouquet is right on trend with what we are seeing in the industry.
Kim Starr (with 2 R’s) Wise – Overall Kim did a good job with her speaking abilities and design. What wanted us to really see Kim in the top 10 was her fun personality that we got to see at the end of the video.
Laurel LeMaistre CFD NHMFD – She created a fresh and fun video that had a raw edge to it. We enjoyed her design and the music that was used.
Tamara (Petal Pusher) – We loved that Tamara used the Tillandsia (air plant) as her focal flower. The video provided information on another hot product and the design was creative and different.
Shawn Adams – Shawn also resubmitted his video from last year. We think he posses great presentation and design skills.
Tony Medlock AIFD, PFCI – Tony is a strong speaker and we loved his design. Sometimes funky or textural items are hard to know what to do with, but his design is a great use of these types of products.
