Inspect flowers carefully for signs of damage to stems and flowers checking for signs of dehydration and/or wilting, as well as problems due to poor handling or packing. Remove all lower leaves that may fall in water and cut stems crisply with a sharp knife. Bleeding Heart flowers should be hydrated in a low sugar holding solution and preferably processed in the cooler.
