Family of hardy proteaceous material, generally conical or tubular flower, heads and usually in autumn tones of orange, brown, red and green, which originate in Australia, and to a lesser extent in New Guinea. Named after the British botanist Sir Joseph Banks, sponsor of Captain Cooks first circumnavigation of the world and which included a stop at Botany Bay on the Australian continent. After unpacking, always check the inflorescence for crushed or impacted flowers as damaged florets can rapidly turn black. Also look out for faded flowers that can indicate they have been stored. Remove lower foliage from stems, cut and place into a low sugar holding solution. Hold in coolers.
