Inspect flowers carefully after receiving, especially if shipped dry in boxes. Look carefully at the panicles for any signs of damage or browning to the flowers. Shake carefully and gently to loosen stems from each other, then proceed to process. The flowers are quite delicate when dry, but once hydrated they are vigorous and a wonderful asset for the floral designer. Stems should be cut cleanly and crisply and placed immediately into water. Check that flowers are not below the rim of the container as lack of airflow will compromise the quality of the blooms. Any leaves that will be submerged should be removed. The flowers should be hydrated in a low sugar holding solution and preferably processed in the cooler.
