Stiff tropical flower, atop an erect stem with a hard beak-like calyx. Overall color of the plant and the leaves is glaucous, but the flower explodes in color like an umbrella on a Mai-Tai. Three bright orange winged sepals unfold from the “beak” one at a time, followed by two dark blue petals; the complimentary colors creating a dazzling display. The name is perfect!
Generally hardy, attention should be paid to ensure the flower does not get bruised as it opens.
