roses detined for Mayesh Wholesale FloristTonight the last large load of roses destined for Mayesh locations nationwide were received, checked and loaded into a trailer for delivery to UPS at our cargo agent; Flowercargo. It has been a really hectic week, and is now just a blur of roses, although Freedom seemed to outnumber other roses two to one. My work here is almost done and the intensity of distribution now passes to the associates at the numerous Mayesh outlets.

My work, especially the scrutiny of roses pulled at random from each grower, was greatly aided and abetted by the industrious and cheerful staff at Flowercargo, some of whom are pictured in the group photo. I was especially helped by Luis and Luis pictured together in one of the pictures. They kept track of all the incoming flowers, and funneled the boxes to the inspection room for checking. There are about five companies checking flowers so it gets very hectic at times. Our freight forwarder is a great asset when it comes to the ability to check and review all the shipments, given that a lot of the freight forwarders are so overwhelmed with product that this is no longer an option. This was especially true this Valentine’s season with all the cancelled flights, and many companies simply had to hope that the products are all good.

I plan on bringing our readers all things flora and fun, mixed with some serious posts about the flower business. I like to think of myself as pretty well-rounded - having passion for design (flowers, web, decor, etc.), marketing, photography, tech, and business. I'm a huge believer in continual education, so I'm always looking for new ideas and hope to share that journey with you!

Coming from a background in interior design, I'm trying my hand at flowers, and will be spending the next year learning the ins & outs of the business. I will be sharing my experiences as the new kid on the block, hoping to inspire other young, aspiring floral designers like myself. I grew up in the wholesale flower business, but hope to use my education and experience to eventually create a unique and innovative approach to floral design. Follow along for a blend of educational tid-bits, my thoughts & musings on the business, and a peek into my crazy journey into the world of flowers! #alitheflorist
